Planting Hanging Baskets Summer 2018

We have five hanging baskets to be planted this year. Mr MC&W offered to have the children so I could go the garden centre and choose all the plants we needed. It felt a little like supermarket sweep, I was on count down to get back for him to play golf. But I am thrilled with the choices and the colours we have this year.

I went shopping earlier than last year and choice of plants was so much better and lots of new and interesting colours to choose from.

Petunia, I have to have a big basket of Petunias and this year they were selling black ones, I have always wanted to do a basket that had these balck petunia, I mixed them with Blue vein to create the most dramatic basket I have ever done. I adore this one as it is so bold and so hope it works out well.

I am a little obsessed with Nemesia they are just stunning flowers and they have this beautiful variety called Rhubarb and Custard I decided to get two and then surrounded with Calibrachoa Cabaret in Light pink and Lemon to make a soft and delicate basket

I also fell for Nemesia in Carmine a dark pink and clashed it with bright red Calibrachoa Cabaret and then some White Verbena

I adore purples and used Heliotropium two years ago, the bees loved it and it was a real beauty so chose it again this year and surrounded them with swathes of Lobelia Erinus in lavender, Bacopa in white and great regal blue that looks  more purple.

I found these Spring Valley three in one plants last year and decided to given them a go this year. The label states it contains Calibrachoa and lobelia its a mix of orange purple and white, I added diascia dark orange, I have not used any of these plants before so looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

There we have it the 2018 hanging baskets, I will keep posting pictures on twitter to show how they are doing and this year I also brought some plant food and will feed once a week as last year the combination of the weather and lack of feeding the baskets were a disappointment.

  1. I've tried soo many combinations of flowers and I just can't get my hanging baskets to thrive, it's so annoying! So I end up buying the ready made ones! #BloggerClubUK

  8. These are so beautiful. I would love hanging baskets on my balcony. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find flowers resistant enough to be by the sea. Maybe you can advice? Thank you for sharing with #stayclassymama
