Weeds, weeds and more weeds

It seems ages since I last sat down and wrote a blog post, we have had a lot going on over the last couple of months. Sadly something had to give and that seemed to be the garden, this is even more of a shame as as I use the garden time to relax and lose myself from the everyday stresses. The post is a very honest insight into where we are at the moment with the front garden, let me pre warn you it's not pretty.

But I want to share the realities of our gardening adventure, as I am sure many of you will understand the photos I am about to share with you. How easy it is to have a garden that can become untidy and look totally neglected after only a month or two of being unloved.

I did a lot of work on the front garden in the spring, it was looking lovely. I had spring flowers planted up, adding some lovely colour to the dull, cold grey skies.


I have been struggling to find time to get outside and this is the sorry state that now greets people as the come to the house.

The area I was going to put a membrane down and pots is now all weeds.



The spring flowers have died back and  the planters look sad and unloved, the once well dug border still has not been planted and is now growing weeds however on a positive note there are far less weeds than before.

The beautiful Primroses and Bluebells have now died back.

The Hyacinths have gone over and fallen over

The Wallflowers and tiny Daffodils are not looking happy.

This was full of Daffodils and Primroses now they have totally died back.

The border now rather full of weeds and not planted up.

I am sure I am not alone in finding it hard to keep up with the garden and wanted this to be an truthful  post to show how things can look when time is not your friend.

Though on a positive note the acer is looking amazing



I am wanting to get the front garden back on track, so will get some summer plants sorted and potted up. We also have a couple of hanging baskets I would love to give a go. As always it will be trial and error with my limited knowledge but spring went well I am sure we can make summer and success too and learn from any mistakes.

So I am hoping a new post will show the front garden getting back on track.

    Ah, at least you are trying. My poor garden is the garden of shame in our street I'm afraid. Well it was until neighbours two doors down moved in and we passed over that mantle. I have sparse grass and weeds. Every year I say I'm going to plant something and get rid of the weeds but, life takes over. We're waiting on planning permission to extend our house so the garden will probably be a casualty of skips and scaffolding if it all goes to plan. No point making a start this year then.

    Sadly life gets in the way. It's a shame that all the weeds came and the plants died. But at least you can start a fresh. Redo it. If life allows you. Good to see you writing again. Thanks for linking up with us on the #bigfatlinky hope to see you there this week

Meal Plan Saturday 18th June 2016

The weeks are just flying by at the moment. Last weeks meal plan went ok, the cheesy broccoli, ham and pasta bake was great even though I changed the meal massively from that on BBC Good Food. I adored the Pea Pakoras the boys not so much,  we will give them another go. The toad in the hole was for Mr and Mrs MC&W tasty and for once I cooked it well, boys loved the Yorkshire puddings but sausages are still not going down to well. This week is very busy so we are having a few quick and easy or throw it in the oven and leave to cook meals. We also have baby ZAP beginning to wean so putting his first few tastes on the meal plan as well. Busy times ahead. I am using as I did with both the boys Annabel Karmels ideas to start with and then doing a combination of baby lead weaning. This dual way worked well with both OEP and ATM. Feeding a Bee with sugar water

Have you ever been in the garden and seen a sad looking bee on the ground not really moving? You watch it for a while realising the poor little chap is really struggling. I have found several bees like this and tried to feed them sugar water. But my attempts to rescue them mainly ended with me trying to drown them, I was really not aiding them during their time of need. But I have finally developed a method that works so I thought I would share. Mix together white sugar with a little water so that it completely dissolves, RSPB suggests 2 tablespoons of sugar with one tablespoon of water. I used desert spoons but the same ratio. The advice is never to use honey or brown sugar.  This is what worked for me, move the bee to a paving stone, I used a strong leaf they tend to walk onto it, if not you can easily slide it under them, then drip a small amount of the sugar water in front of the bee.
