Meal Plan Friday 21st December 2018 - Christmas

So we have made it, the children have finished school and we are on the countdown to Christmas Day.

I have ordered a few treats but not too many and we have lots of more savoury snacks arriving than sweet ones.

Friday - Scampi and Chips or myself and Mr MC&W the boys will have quorn nuggets, mash and peas

Saturday - Sticky Chinese Chicken

Sticky chinese chicken traybake

Sunday - We are having a Charlie Bigham beef Stroganoff. Fish, Chips and Peas for the boys.

Monday - Curry this is Mr MC&W family tradition again this is a lazy one thanks to Charlie Bigham as this festive break needs to give us all a chance to have time off. I made the mistake of asking the boys and they chose pizza

Tuesday - Roast Turkey - we have a boned and rolled turkey breast served with roast potatoes, parsnips, honey baked carrots, red cabbage, sprouts and Broccoli. Plus the normal pigs in blankets and devils on horseback's all served with a lot of gravy

Wednesday - Left overs I have got in baking potatoes and baguettes depending on what we fancy

Thursday - Ham, egg and chips as we have a gammon that I in cola on Christmas eve.

Lunches will be mainly picnic ones with lots of breads and bits we can have from the fridge.

Pleached Trees - Higher Privacy Solution

As you are aware we have had the new fence put in and are trying to find some ways to gain some privacy back, the new garden fence . Today I took the boys on a trip to one of my favourite places to look at trees and plants. English Woodlands located at Cross in Hand, East Sussex. We brought our laurel plants from them about 4 years ago, they were extremely good plants healthy, strong and have since flourished. As a nursery, they helped us choose what we needed and even told us to buy smaller ones as they would grow so fast, saving us money. I have been looking online and wondered if pleached trees maybe an answer to our height issue. What they should do is bring height to the fence but still allow light in. Now these are by no means a cheap and as always I am not sure if Mr MC&W is going to like them. So what is a pleached tree you ask?, to be honest, I only found out when frantically on google looking for  solutions for the new fence. A pleached tree is where som...

Meal Plan Saturday 18th June 2016

The weeks are just flying by at the moment. Last weeks meal plan went ok, the cheesy broccoli, ham and pasta bake was great even though I changed the meal massively from that on BBC Good Food. I adored the Pea Pakoras the boys not so much,  we will give them another go. The toad in the hole was for Mr and Mrs MC&W tasty and for once I cooked it well, boys loved the Yorkshire puddings but sausages are still not going down to well. This week is very busy so we are having a few quick and easy or throw it in the oven and leave to cook meals. We also have baby ZAP beginning to wean so putting his first few tastes on the meal plan as well. Busy times ahead. I am using as I did with both the boys Annabel Karmels ideas to start with and then doing a combination of baby lead weaning. This dual way worked well with both OEP and ATM. This week it's all about a few first tastes as he has had a few days on baby rice now and it's time to move on a little. I will also be starting to...

Feeding a Bee with sugar water

Have you ever been in the garden and seen a sad looking bee on the ground not really moving? You watch it for a while realising the poor little chap is really struggling. I have found several bees like this and tried to feed them sugar water. But my attempts to rescue them mainly ended with me trying to drown them, I was really not aiding them during their time of need. But I have finally developed a method that works so I thought I would share. Mix together white sugar with a little water so that it completely dissolves, RSPB suggests 2 tablespoons of sugar with one tablespoon of water. I used desert spoons but the same ratio. The advice is never to use honey or brown sugar.  This is what worked for me, move the bee to a paving stone, I used a strong leaf they tend to walk onto it, if not you can easily slide it under them, then drip a small amount of the sugar water in front of the bee. The bee will start to drink the sugar water and you will see it begin to get stronger. It...
