GYO Plans 2020

As I write this I am sat at the kitchen island with a cup of tea looking out on a beautiful sunny day. For five mins I am away from everything going on in the world at the moment. The garden has been a total escape from the worry and sadness surrounding Covid-19.

So, let's get thinking about the new GYO season starting to kick off, well for me anyway. Last year was a real roller coaster and not that successful so I am hoping for better this year.

If you want to see a review here it is -  GYO review 2019

I have planted some bits out, according to the seed packets I could, but they are not doing anything at the moment which is a little disappointing. I have done carrots, beetroot and chard. I have spaced very carefully this year and let much more room between crops last year everything got too cramped and then they all failed. Maybe it is just a little early for them we shall see and I can always try again.

I have in the propagator some sweetcorn, peppers, aubergine and peas. They are all slowly starting to germinate. I am trying to do more succession planting this year which last year I failed miserably at.

I had some courgettes but accidentally left the lid open of the little mini greenhouse and they now look like this. whoops, let's try again.

I have also put a few cut and come again leaves into a pot and will succession grow them and hopefully, soon we will have some salad leaves.

I normally get my tomatoes in May time from our local garden centre. Not sure when lock down is going to end but they do deliver which is good news.

I have hope this additional thinking about space and timings will lead to a more successful crop. I am trying some cucumbers designed for outdoors as the area I grow is sheltered and sunny. It is nice to try something new.

I will keep you posted with how we are doing charting all my successes and failures.

  1. Good luck! GYO is going to be more important than ever this year - not only boosting our supplies of fresh veg, but also helping to maintain our sanity.
